Annual FRENCH ALLIANCE COMMEMORATION

Every year on the first Sunday in May the Washington Memorial Chapel on Route 23 in Valley Forge marks the anniversary of the celebration at the Valley Forge encampment on 6 May 1778 of the Treaty of Alliance between the United States and France during the American Revolution. The ceremony, includes an evening prayer service, an address by a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of France and a wreath laying. Participants in the ceremony include: a representative, generally a military officer, of the French Embassy, the Honorary Consul of France in Philadelphia, a representative  of the Valley Forge National Historical Park,  representatives of various patriotic organizations and members of the French community in the Philadelphia area.

As the single most important diplomatic success of the colonists during the War for Independence, the French Alliance is recognized by the Chapel during a special religious service.  The public is invited, though space is limited.

Thanks to the generosity of our partners, we were able to create a short documentary about French & American Alliance. Click above to watch The French Alliance: A Love Story.
