Veterans Commission

Mission Statement

The WMC Veterans Commission exists to honor all those who have served our country; to show God’s love through service; to provide spiritual support to active members as well as fellow veterans and their families; and to help build stronger Christian relationships among veterans and surrounding communities.

Our Purpose

  • To promote Christian veteran fellowship

  • To share valuable information with fellow veterans

  • To celebrate our common military experiences

  • To recognize, through special public services and events, the importance
and sacrifices of the members of our nation’s military.

What We Offer

  •  Fellowship: Our gatherings provide a safe space to connect with others who understand the unique experiences of military service.

  •  Spiritual Growth: Through Bible studies and reflective teaching, we explore how faith can be a source of comfort and guidance. Our ministry encourages spiritual growth and provides a platform for veterans to explore their faith journeys.

  •  Resources: We offer types of resources to help veterans access the assistance they need.

  • Community Outreach: Our ministry is dedicated to serving veterans, active duty, and the wider community, exemplifying the spirit of selflessness and service.

  •  Social Events: enjoy social gatherings, and activities that foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among fellow veterans and their families.

Prayer and Worship: Come together for prayer services and worship sessions designed to uplift and inspire. Discover the healing power of communal prayer and worship as we seek spiritual renewal.

Friends of Veterans

Friends of Veterans are veterans, friends, and parishioners who are committed to supporting our Veterans and the men and women on active duty and their families.

In honor of their military service, past and present, the Washington Memorial Chapel holds solemn services on recognized national days; Four Chaplains Day, Vietnam Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Purple Heart Day, Patriot 911 Remembrance Day and Veterans Day. All are invited to attend.

Appropriate tribute to our veterans involves a choir of professional voices led by our organist/choirmaster, and the bells of the Washington Memorial National Carillon. A service with four professional voices costs the Chapel $1200, with eight voices, $1800. A reception to which all are invited follows the service. Contributions to the Friends of Veterans fund support these services and the receptions. Veterans who have attended these have appreciated their solemnity and majesty and are touched by our warm welcome. We intend, with your help, to continue this tradition.
