State Services
For nearly one hundred years the Washington Memorial Chapel has held “State Services” honoring individual states of the Union and sponsored by state society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A “State Service” is an evening prayer service taken from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, the prayer book with which George Washington would have been familiar. The service is held on a Sunday afternoon at the request of a State Regent of the DAR. It may be followed by a luncheon, a tour of the Chapel given by a Chapel docent, a carillon concert or a tour of the National Patriots Bell Tower, built by the DAR between 1947 and 1953. In recent years State Services have been held by the Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Delaware state societies of the DAR. For further inquiry or to schedule a service, luncheon, and tour, please contact our Parish Business Admnistrator.
