tours

Our docents (tour guides) enjoy offering individual or group tours of the Chapel. Visitors leave inspired after experiencing a tour of the Chapel. There is hardly a nook or cranny that is not filled with meaning. From the D’Ascenzo stained-glass windows to the Roof of the Republic to the intricate hand carved wood and stone work of Edward Maene and the metalwork of Samuel Yellin, WMC truly is a unique and beautiful symbol of our great nation.

Did you know that there are 13 windows, representing the original 13 colonies? Did you know that they trace the founding of the United States from the birth of Christianity through the Renaissance, Reformation and Enlightenment to the Constitution and that each one is dedicated to a Founder or Patriot?  Hanging above the choir  is one of the original handles from George Washington’s coffin! The Chapel is also home to one of the very few statues of a seated George Washington.  There are so many treasures to explore!

Docents are available at varying times and days of the week and tours on almost any day can generally be arranged with advance notice.  To schedule a tour for individuals or groups contact us here.

Our docents are volunteers who are both members and friends of the Chapel. They are a vital part of our ministry here at WMC as we receive tens of thousands of guests each year to see our beautiful building and campus. We are also always looking to add to our team of docents. If you are passionate about history and/or architecture and would like to become a docent, let us know. To join the docent team, please contact our head docent.
